Interactive kinetic robot exhibit

Interaction Design and Producing
September 2011

Locations: IAA Frankfurt 2011

MESO Digital Interiors commissioned me to develop the communication and interaction design as well as the complete software  implementation in vvvv.

The result is an abstract high dynamic drive on a display to explain BMW’s xDrive Technology with two contrary and usually independent movements – The animated route on the display and a robot moving a car smoooothly on that animation.

The user can choose a particular car model for the demonstration. An additional slow-motion mode substantiates the user experience by explaining in which situation which axis gets which amount of force.

This is one piece of a row of exhibits for BMW, that use industrial robots to do brand communication by becoming a character by its kinetic movements.

The project was awarded at the Red Dot Design Grand Prix 2012, ADC Silver 2013 and the German Design Award 2014.
